2027 Long Weekends from US Federal Holidays
US federal holidays create ten three-day weekends in 2027. Five come from Monday holidays, four from holidays observed on a Friday or Monday because the date falls on a weekend, and one from New Year’s Day itself.
The ten long weekends

| Sat Feb 13 to Mon Feb 15 | Washington’s Birthday | Third Monday in February |
| Sat May 29 to Mon May 31 | Memorial Day | Last Monday in May |
| Fri Jun 18 to Sun Jun 20 | Juneteenth (observed) | June 19 is a Saturday, so it is observed on Friday |
| Sat Jul 3 to Mon Jul 5 | Independence Day (observed) | July 4 is a Sunday, so it is observed on Monday |
| Sat Sep 4 to Mon Sep 6 | Labor Day | First Monday in September |
| Sat Oct 9 to Mon Oct 11 | Columbus Day | Second Monday in October |
| Fri Dec 24 to Sun Dec 26 | Christmas Day (observed) | December 25 is a Saturday, so it is observed on Friday |
| Fri Dec 31 to Sun Jan 2, 2028 | New Year’s Day 2028 (observed) | January 1, 2028 is a Saturday, so it is observed on Friday, December 31, 2027 |
The rule behind “observed”
Federal law (5 U.S.C. 6103) fixes the eleven holidays. When one falls on a Saturday it is observed on the Friday before, and when one falls on a Sunday it is observed on the Monday after. That is why 2027 ends with a holiday that belongs to 2028.
