What changed in 2026

A revision to the public holiday rules dated April 30, 2026 made Labor Day (May 1) a public holiday from May 1, 2026 and restored Constitution Day (July 17) as one from 2026. Both also qualify for substitute holidays. In 2027 both fall on a Saturday, so Monday, May 3 and Monday, July 19 are days off. Calendars made before the change will not show them.

How many days off is that

According to the 2027 almanac notice from the Korea AeroSpace Administration, the 24 dates plus 52 Sundays, minus the 4 holidays that fall on a Sunday, give 72 public holidays. Counting Saturdays as well, a five-day work week has 119 days off in 2027.

Long weekends

There are ten breaks of three days or more: Jan 1 to 3, Feb 6 to 9 (Seollal), Feb 27 to Mar 1, May 1 to 3, Jul 17 to 19, Aug 14 to 16, Sep 14 to 16 (Chuseok), Oct 2 to 4, Oct 9 to 11 and Dec 25 to 27. Chuseok runs Tuesday to Thursday, so taking Monday, September 13 or Friday, September 17 off gives six days in a row.
